Homeschooling is an education model in which parents educate their children at home instead of sending them to a traditional public or private school. In homeschool, the parent or guardian is responsible for the education of their child.

Our enrollment and admissions processes are open to all NYC students, including LGBTQ and gender nonconforming or gender expansive students.

If your child is interested in applying to gender-specific programs, you will be asked to provide the gender identification that they assert consistently at school. This may be different from the sex they were assigned at birth.

Our admissions processes and enrollment are open to all NYC students, including those whose home language is not English.

Building Accessibility

• All admissions applications include a question that will ask you to indicate whether your child has accessibility needs and requires a school or program in an accessible building.
• To learn about any specific school building's accessibility, check its Building Accessibility Profile.
• You can also use the MySchools(Open external link) directory to explore school options for your child. You can filter for programs with specific accessibility criteria using the “More Filters” drop down menu.

Schools across New York City are participating in an initiative to increase diversity within their schools. Some schools give an admissions priority to applicants who are low-income, English Language Learners (ELLs) or Emerging Multilingual Learners (EMLs), are in the child welfare system or live in temporary housing. A complete list of schools and their priorities is below. Participating schools will still make offers using standard admissions priorities.

If you live outside of New York City’s five boroughs (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island) and would like your child to attend a NYC Department of Education (DOE) public school, you can request to enroll as a non-resident.

Family Welcome Centers (FWCs) serve NYC families all year round with enrollment and admissions. During August and September, FWCs will be prioritizing support for families without a school or those who need a transfer due to safety or medical concerns.
